Works as advertised

I use this to trace the wiring of dog fences and robotic lawn mowers. When tying and seeding the lawn I used a simpler and cheaper system to determine the wire paths. While a random discontinuity is good enough to be detected, the simpler system was not accurate enough and simple enough to be easy to use. As a result, my lawnmower lines went bad. Then I got 521 and was able to find gaps less than an inch (and see how far my original measurements were from the actual paths). However, for a small

Not as good in network and cable testers

First impressions are disappointing. Does not turn on with new batteries right out of the box. I took the batteries out and put them back in a few times, turned it on and off a few times and finally it turned on. screwdriver in the floor. With this guide I found one of 10 valves. I also found a pipe and three buried bricks. I found four more valves, three of which had a soil probe to be stuck into the ground where I suspected the valves would be. The probe penetrates sand fairly well, but stops

Pros
  • High marks for tester support and durability
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options

I've only used this to find buried valves and it's great! It took me a second to figure out the sounds and best practices, but I was able to pinpoint valve positions to within 5 inches before digging the hole. With valves, it's best to run the receiver at full frequency, run it down a known wire to see how the frequency sounds, and then not worry about tracing the wires if the range is small is. Just swipe the courtyard until you get a very loud response. It will be louder than walking on aโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • No instructions
