Handy little tap attachment

This is a handy little tap. Pros: It is excellent for filling screw holes in electrical boxes that are new construction when a bricklayer is putting mortar inside. or a painter fills holes with paint. Cons: They are quite brittle, if you don't start them straight they break easily. You must be careful when drilling into heavier metal or you will break the drill bit.

Cons
  • Ugly packaging

Ideal for soft metals or very thin steel.

I bought this to make the back panel of electrical cabinets easier. On thin panels (16 ga to 22 ga) it works as advertised, but if you have a thick backing (14 ga or thicker) expect it to break quickly. I bought two, one went through about 20 holes in a 16 ga panel and then broke after 3 holes in a 14 ga panel. The other punched the very first hole in the 14ga plate. For comparison, I have a regular 6-32 rooster that has cut over 200 holes and never broke even in 10ga slabs. Great idea, but you

Excellent combination tool of tap and drill bit

I use it for threading brass and aluminum. That works great! Although this is a drill and tap in one device, I highly recommend drilling a pilot hole when working with anything other than sheet metal. Simply choose a drill bit that is about the same size or slightly smaller than the bit size of this drill bit and drill a hole with it. It helps to apply WD-40 or cutting fluid to the drill before each use. The base of the tool fits snugly onto my drill press's 1/4" hex adapter. Keep the drill bit
