Update September 2018, 1 year later: It's due to bad weather and everything worked great in a year of use on our street. ; very cold winters and very hot summers. I recently changed the batteries, but I did it as a precaution, not because the batteries were dead. We move in and out at least 4-5 times a day, the kids ride our bikes several times a week, plus a few trips to the mailbox.
