Very good but not quite perfect

This is the second stained glass we have purchased for our stained glass group here at Oak Hammock CCRC. We got the first one and everyone wanted to use it instead of the big Weller 80's. It is much lighter and heats up very quickly. Solderes perfectly, and the ability to adjust the temperature with a simple knob on the handle allows you to work well even with thick wire or zinc frames. Should have bought that first!

I have used my Weller soldering tool for stained glass windows so far and being a beginner I bought it with cost in mind. However, I found that the weller was heavy and heated unevenly. After reading reviews of the Hakko FX-601, I decided it was worth the upgrade. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner! It warms evenly, maintains the temperature and is much lighter and more comfortable in the hand. My solder lines improved a lot after the first use because they withstood the heat and I…

Great soldering iron for stained glass

Bought because I was making two boards using an old weller on a temperature controller that is very finicky about maintaining a constant temperature. It combines with stained glass, waits, heats up, solders, rubs, waits, repeats. Except that it always took longer to wait for it to heat up again, even when wiping it with a dry bronze wool pad instead of a wet sponge.
