They fit exactly into the spool hole and hold the bobbin thread together with the spool. let the lower thread wind up so that it does not unravel. These bobbin holders work great with my Bernina bobbins and my Janome/Singer bobbins. The coils are inserted and held securely. They also attach securely to Sulky and Coats & Clark thread spools. I couldn't have asked for a better way to hold coils and coils together. One suggestion: if you're using it for embroidery with thread (for free-standing lace or 3D objects that need the top and bottom threads to be the same), you can attach the bobbin to the end that does NOT have a color number. then
