Handling no problem. Best in Hammers

Replacement handle for an ax I use on my hikes. After installing and using the ax on some walnut scraps, please pass it along.

Pros
  • Great on Me
Cons
  • Requires Socket

Gary Paulsen would be proud.

ax handle of Lowe could be found. Strange right? Bought and it was too big to fit my hatchet so I shaved it off and it works great. Like the other reviewer, I pulled out the clip at the end and drilled through the entire underside of the handle.

Pros
  • cool product
Cons
  • vulgarity

Poor quality controls

As you can see, the head connector is weak and far from center. The headboard is also quite small - 1/2" x 1 5/8". Don't waste money on return shipping. I'll try to make it work by filling the head gap with scrap wood and glue/epoxy. However, I wouldn't buy it again.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Some cons

Wedge is very off center

I was excited when I got this grip until I noticed the center notch was noticeably off center. Not just a little, but so bad that the handle loses its integrity as soon as the wedge is inserted. I'm not sure how it wasn't noticed before it came to me.

Pros
  • An absolute legend
Cons
  • Good but not great

asymmetric insert best for power tools and hand tools

The wood suitable for an ax was asymmetric. I had to shave one side of the tree to fit the axe. Also, the "cut" (the woodcut where the wedge fits) was off-center. I had to use an alternate method to secure the ax handle. This particular pen was a bad choice.

Pros
  • Very Good Price
Cons
  • Nothing

Supplied not as shown

Supplied not as shown. It had quite a thick layer of varnish which I was able to remove easily. The fiber orientation was straight, which made me very happy. It's really hard to find decent grips with a grainy texture these days. Overall, I was impressed with the excellent fiber orientation.

Pros
  • Perfect for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Clarity

Nice handle

Nice wooden handle, not quite centered on the grain. The finish is slightly rough but as it is not varnished it sands very well and absorbs oil. This was made for a bigger eye than what was on my head so it took a bit of tooling and sanding. The picture shows a metal wedge and also a wooden wedge, but they don't include a metal wedge. When finished, this pen feels great in your hand and looks even better.

Pros
  • Power and hand tools
Cons
  • New competitors have appeared

3-1/2 Stars in Hand Tools

After buying and returning handles from 3 other manufacturers I left this one. I love the fact that it hasn't been varnished which makes applying linseed oil a lot easier. Also, it's the only grip with the right grain orientation, so I know it's going to be springy. Two minor inconveniences: (1) the neck required more adjustment than I would have liked; and (2) I don't particularly like how the grip narrows to a small gripping area on the grip.

Pros
  • Hammer Handle
Cons
  • Expensive

Come out and be a family man

This is an ax handle. Measures 14 inches accurately top to bottom right out of the box. There is a pre-cut wedge slot (included) about 1.75 inches deep. Before filing, the widest part of the head cross section is 5/8 inch and the longest part is 1 5/8 inch. There is a bracket on the bottom of the handle for hanging the handle, I plan to remove it with pliers. The grain on my handle is vertical and only curves slightly (this is the type of grain you want). The wood is very light and protected…

Pros
  • Hammers
Cons
  • Available in white only
