Section 2B-18 Engine Mount Instructions Contains Error

Instruction 2b-18 requires removal of the driver's side drive axle for 4WD models when repairing the driver's side engine mount. That's wrong, removing the drive axle does nothing, does not interfere with the engine mounts and involves additional unnecessary work. The front drive shaft must be removed to access the motor mount, not the drive axle.

Very comprehensive information for all different models

There was a time when you had a car and you bought one of those books you knew how to fix almost anything on a vehicle. With all the engine and transmission options and different models, these books are a good read to get a general knowledge of your car. It shows liquid level and maintenance information, it is just very general, you can find the most specific information for your car in the owner's manual.

  • Good thing

Very good for simple items

Got what I ordered. Newer cars are much more difficult to diagnose and repair, but these guides will definitely help. Really good for basic stuff, but it won't make you a master mechanic, and you probably won't rebuild an engine with it if you've never done anything mechanical. Good for a home mechanic doing basic stuff. If you buy this and plan on doing your own work, you can get an OBDS scanner to read engine check codes.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Long delivery time

Good enough for tools and equipment

There were no Haynes manuals for the 2015 Silverado at the time of purchase, but most of the 2014 model has been carried over to 2015 so it was good enough for what I still need . There may soon be a guide covering 2015, but I haven't checked lately. Such a manual cannot be expected to be comprehensive, but it will allow you to carry out simple to medium repairs yourself without going to the dealer. I think these guides are about a B if you can read between the lines at times.

Pros
  • This is amazing

  • Some errors

Not bad, but confusing.

I got this to work on my 1968 Dodge Vailant, some things on it looked like some things but most of it didn't. Using some torque to pull stuff out on my Vailant didn't work. I broke a lot of the bolts in the engine block so I had to take the engine out and drill them out. The torque for the connecting rod bearing was incorrect. I had seized 4 out of 6 connecting rod bearings when I fired it at about 168 miles. I will try another change. This time I will pay MORE attention to the book. I'm not…

  • Certified
Cons
  • Cord shorter than others

A useful book, but not perfect

It contains a lot of useful information that is more than worth the price. But I'm only giving it 4 stars because some of the sections are clearly generic and may or may not apply to this particular vehicle. For example, the section on the cooling system talks about a radiator cap (my Silverado doesn't have a cap on the radiator, just a cap on the plastic tank). It is also recommended to drain the radiator by opening the drain hole on the bottom of the radiator, but GM removed the radiator…
