I had to grind two mating surfaces that touch at the point of contact for the pan function to work properly. Mine was Monday morning or "hangover". I tried straightening the 1/4" rod with a vise and the vise broke. Material marking for low quality cast iron.

Garbage. I used this for a month until the movable jaw broke. Absolutely useless. I didn't think it was very well made because the weight was so light. So I didn't tighten it, hammer it in, or do any other offensive things that you can normally do with a quality vise. But it still broke off when this user tightened it in his 60-year-old hand. The box was torn upon delivery. I got the impression that it's smaller than I expected but was cast mostly in heavy metal. which can be damaged. I put it aside while I rebuilt the barn roof and haven't used it in over a month. Then I put it to an initial test by holding a 1/4" bent steel pin in my hands that I had to straighten.
