Problem with magnets

Magnets are too weak and fall out. Purchased rare earth magnets just the right size. (Master magnets 07047). Pulled out the old magnets, put tiny blobs of JB Weld in each socket and inserted the rare earth magnets. Now they are great.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • not reliable

Decent for the dollars spent

Decently made jaws for the price. The magnets aren't very strong and 2 of them on one jaw actually came loose and moved without much effort. I replaced those loose magnets with Harbor Freight rare earth magnets. This jaw will not move without intentional force.

Pros
  • Convenient item
Cons
  • So far so good

Good but the magnets are weak

Love these jaws, they are well made, fit together well and will protect your work when you need it. The only thing stopping them from being a 5 star product is the weak magnets. They just aren't strong enough and therefore slip off when you need them to stay in place. So I took a chisel to the magnets (I wrapped them in tape first because they are very fragile and break into pieces - put on goggles) and then scraped off the residue and glue with a pick. These things are better than you think…

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
