Good but only for close-up

Can't see objects more than 10cm away or so, although it claims it can work up to 30cm I've tried screwing it both ways I knew when I bought it that it would return a digital output, but it would be nice to have a version that returned an analog output so you could write distance dependent code .

  • Confident

Great price

I was very impressed by the device. Each unit was static bagged and sealed and they were all bagged. Before using the blocks I tested each sensor and they all worked. I use them with 4.5V DC and they detect objects at a maximum distance of 10-13 cm. The blocks have an adjustment potentiometer that allows you to change the distance and two LEDs, one to indicate power and the other to light up when an object is detected. I found this useful for fine tuning the sensor. I visually inspected the…

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and clumsy

This product (IR Obstacle Avoidance Sensor) does NOT match the description! First, the output is 0.0V when the light is on (activated) and +3.2V when the light is off (not active). Completely contrary to what is in the description! Also, the description states that the output is a "digital 0 or 1", which again is completely false and misleading. The output signal comes from the analog voltage comparator LM393. It is not clear to me where they get "digital 0 or 1" from, because it is clearly an…
