Love it - Arc Welders

I just started welding. I tried 7018 and couldn't start the arc. In addition, the rod sticks. I bought this and big difference. I immediately put the beads. If you are just starting out then buy them.

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • Not bad

Good rod for beginners

Hobart is one of the best rods, not as good as the big red brand but Hobart still performs well in all positions. The 7014 is a good beginner rod, once you have your machine set up correctly the 7014 will work on its own.

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • Questionable buy for seniors

7014 boom Rating: Welding machines and accessories

Everything is fine. Nothing special. Good for a closing seam, but I've never cared if my welds look nice. I'm more interested in whether they last 5 or 6 decades. I bought it because it doesn't need heat storage like 7018. Good price. I'll try Lincoln next time for comparison.

Pros
  • Impressive
Cons
  • No

Great looking welds on mild steel.

I love this rod for farm use. There are no special storage requirements like 7018. The bead looks very beautiful if you keep a smooth movement. This is my favorite stick for flat welding mild steel parts. For anything high in carbon, I use a Hobart or Lincoln 7018. I toast them a bit in my shop's toaster first just to make sure they're dry.

Pros
  • Heavy duty construction
Cons
  • Low maintenance

withstands shipping - welding gear

I was very concerned that the welding wire would withstand the Ultimate Package S.mashers when shipped. I was afraid the flux would crack and the ore would break off. No problem after multiple orders of size and type. Now I can get 5/32 in packs of less than 50# as the local store doesn't sell and doesn't order for me. I prefer a plastic Hobart tube to a Lincoln cardboard box, probably part of shipping survival. Note that Lincoln is said to have switched to plastic tubes, but I haven't seenโ€ฆ

New to welding and nothing to compare but works great!

This type (7014) was created after some research on the universal stick type. I used it with my cheap inverter arc welder at 110V @ 85A and it worked great to make a custom lawn mower handle out of an old elliptical. It even helped remove a broken bolt I couldn't drill out. I really want to keep doing small projects and other things to give me a reason to weld more!

Pros
  • arc welder
Cons
  • threadbare

I like them better than 7018.

My understanding is that 7018 bars need to be baked to keep them dry. who knows, maybe it's easy when you weld race car frames. These 7014s produce a great bead, remove slag easily and offer better penetration and strength than 6013s (although I really like them). This is a quality Hobart product that lives up to the brand name. And you don't have to worry about cooking them before use.

Pros
  • welders
Cons
  • not reliable

Excellent sticks although some of the flux cracked during shipping

The sticks are great, squirt more than Blue Devil. Nice shiny finish on a fresh seam. Unfortunately 6 sticks were broken and were not used. A few others had to be trimmed down to the shortest crack. Of all the rods I've bought this is the only manufacturer that doesn't box them. That's probably why they were the only ones to snap during transport. I haven't been able to write this for a long time as I only opened the box yesterday.

Pros
  • Tools and Housewares
Cons
  • Some bugs
