Description of 🕯️ Herodian Ancient Biblical Oil Lamp Replica - Antique (Vintage) - Large - Holy Land Market

Byzantine period oil lamp replica, as found between Jerusalem and Bethlehem. Made in Hebron in the mountains of Judea. 4.4 x 3.8 x 1 Inches ( Large ). The Lamp is coated already but not so heavily. For better results it is better to coat it extra with some polyurethane to seal the inside so the oil doesn't seep through the bottom & sides. This special lamp is glazed to ensure oil will not leak when in use. Each comes with special wick for burning. You can use Paraffin or Olive oil for burning.

Reliable Small Bulb

I don't think I would describe this lamp as large. However, it brings an authentic feel to our historical research and the historical drama we make. It also works quite well with no smoking issues; Vegetable oil is inexpensive and readily available. The lamp is a good substitute for candles if you are worried about their smell.

Pros
  • 4.4 x 3.8 x 1 in. (Large)
Cons
  • Almost OK

Should have read the other comments.

Although it was glazed, it got soaked with oil and everything caught fire. I bought it for a live Christmas to add some authenticity to the scenery. It looked good, but we couldn't light it. No instructions, we added a paperclip through the very short wick that was included to try and stabilize the flame.

Pros
  • Made in Hebron in the mountains of Judea
Cons
  • So-so

Don't wear anything white.

I like the lamp, it is identical in size and shape to the normal Herodan oil lamp, but the "aging process" consisted of tossing a fresh terracotta lamp into a pile of black/grey soot. I ran this lamp first, then a couple of the next regular ones I bought, and was wondering where all the sooty fingerprints were coming from, only to find that "the soot/ash from the old Herodan lamp got into this oil and got on my hands". The lamp works 100% as it should, but remember to tan or don't wear white…

Pros
  • Each comes with a special burning wick. For burning you can use paraffin or olive oil.
Cons
  • Difficult to say

Different than expected

Visiting the village, Nazareth received a smaller oil lamp. Used wick and EVOO as fuel. Loved a clean burning lamp! Bought for home use. First use: gave off a chemical smell. Thought it might be a wick or frosting. They aired the house. Examined, cleaned, dried, tried again the next day, following the instructions for using old oil lamps (a wick of about 1/2 inch is allowed, etc.), using a different wick - the one bought in Nazareth. Smoked. (I don't know why. Maybe the hole is too big.) There…

Pros
  • Replica of a Byzantine oil lamp found between Jerusalem and Bethlehem
Cons
  • Something different
