1 of 5 unusable

The first bit I used in my drill press drilled a hole just over 7mm big enough for the brass handle inserts to have "daylight" all around (see photo at right) . Using vernier calipers I found that the original tip of the drill bit had been slightly expanded resulting in a 7+mm diameter hole. I checked the other 4 bits and they were fine (see photo on the left). So be careful.

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • Slightly torn

Fine - not suitable for making handles

They work fine; I've just started using one of these to make handles and it works, but the hole is a bit big which means the tubes will dangle as they go in and you have to use a lot of glue to compensate. A small glass could possibly be visible. Either way, you get what you pay for. They are ok but I will buy a better and more accurate 7mm - I will have these as a backup. People who often didn't know how to use them or what to buy etc. FWIW]

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

Is it worth it or not? on twist drills

Interesting question. I need very little drilling on this project, but I need clean 8mm holes that are positioned/aligned very precisely in solid wood. So: There were practically no hits from the "Honjie" exercises. The rest were PoC, their dots rotated in the form of circles about 1mm in diameter, someone had less, someone had more (!). Impossible to drill accurately with a tool of this quality. Basically I have a point drill that will do the job for $6. On the other hand I could get Austrian…

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled
