Vinyl-like leather. The reins are very narrow for a full size bridle, more like a double bridle than a snaffle (see photo for comparison to other brands of reins). The brown is very dark, almost black. I haven't ridden it yet, so I don't know how durable it is. One of the buckles is sewn slightly crooked, so the tongue of the buckle does not sit flush. I love my new bridle from Horze! It's stunningly beautiful and the price is spot on! The leather is soft and supple, and yes, it's actually leather. The headband is just the right amount of show ring bling, it's not too flashy but catchy at the same time.
