I had to solder the antenna connector to the board. super easy. The headers have already been connected to the "header". So I booted up the Pi-Star on the Pi3+, put the cap on the Pi and turned on the power. Everything was easy except how to find the right type of radio/modem. After trial and error, the result was using "MMDVM_HS_Hat (DB9MAT and DF2ET) for Pi (GPIO). Everything worked great after that. The board works great for $30.00. Only gave 3 stars because it's not good is without sending…

Great for computers and accessories

You'll have to solder the SMA connector and figure out the calibration details yourself, but this board works great if you don't mind putting a little more effort into it than the more expensive one. The board selection "MMDVM_HS_Hat (DB9MAT and DF2ET) for Pi (GPIO)" in Pi-Star helped me. I found it more fun figuring things out than buying a better documented and fully assembled unit, but if you're into plug and play then this probably isn't the board you're looking for.

Easy Install Best on Single Board Computers

If you're not very good at soldering, buy a pre-assembled kit for a few bucks more. ADDITIVE. After struggling with this for almost 2 months I gave it to a friend who builds it all the time and was told the reason I can't get mine to work is that it's defective. He told me he had a bad match too. I think they don't test them thoroughly before selling them. I suspect if the header pins aren't even soldered then they can't test them.
