Keeps drinks warm. The metal plate on the bottom fits snugly to the heating pad and conducts heat well. This pen isn't particularly comfortable to hold, but I don't have to hold it long enough to take a sip while I'm working. The bottom plate gets very hot, so be careful not to touch it with your fingers! I would like to see other colors and grips. I have arthritis so the grip is a bit difficult for me and I think it might be uncomfortable for someone with a big hand.

Need a flat-bottomed cup to heat coffee. This is one of the few with a really thick bottom. For that I applaud. Pen where they lost me. When a design lasts for hundreds of years, that usually means it can't be improved upon. The straight wooden handle is VERY uncomfortable and my knuckles burn when holding it like a regular coffee mug. I find myself bending my arm to hold this HEAVY mug without burning myself. And forget the microwave. The handle gets hot. Also with wood insulator - simply hot!

I bought this on purpose for the small plate on the bottom that is used to warm cups to keep your drink warm. I confirm this little thing works! As for the wooden handled mug... 1.) The IDIOT who designed this is crazy (I'm a design engineer.) 2.) The diameter of the die Aluminum plate on the bottom is 2.25 inches. 3.) The air gap around it is 0.375" x 2 = 0.75". 4.) This means heat only transfers through 1.5 inches. Diameter left (2.25-0.75 = 44% area). 5.) This mug has a flat metal base that works with coffee warmers allowing this product to work as advertised. However, due to the fact that the cup is very heavy, it will likely take most of the time your coffee is empty to get very hot unless you drink coffee in small batches. Until then, you must turn off the heating pad. According to other reviewers, the grip is awkward in shape and position.
