My son is 14 years old but wears 12 year old clothes because he is slim. We bought a size 16 as it had an elastic waistband and as I'm ordering from overseas I didn't want to risk it being too small. He couldn't even get them on below the hips. These "size 16" shorts are not suitable for a child over 10 years old. They fit my girlfriends child who is 8 years old. better.

I bought four pairs of these pairs - the first pair was too tight for my two boys and I was looking for something they would have room to grow into. My 12 year old is in the phase where 12s are a bit small and 14s are too big in regular pants and I bought him a 14 and it was too small but fit my youngest who is too big for a 10 year old but too small is a 12 and i bought him a 12. 16 and 14 fit them better and give them some room to grow although i suggest going up a size.
