DO NOT BUY THESE SEALS!

DO NOT BUY THIS PART This company should be ashamed. Failure to do this could cost someone their life. Obviously, judging by the reviews, there is a problem with the quality of the seals. After my 4th ride I lost my steering wheel worse than the original seals failed. A complete piece of junk and a complete junk company that will keep ripping people off. DO NOT BUY THIS PART.

Pros
  • Best in class
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

One seal leaked badly after first use

Replaced both seals on one of my Sea Star steering cylinders. Yes, I installed it per the instructions (and used a plastic shaft guide) and the steering shaft is free of any imperfections or burrs. One seal worked perfectly, however, another seal leaked profusely during the boat's first test run in less than an hour of use. Breaks down and bought another set from W. Marine and they worked great.

Pros
  • Good value for money
Cons
  • Clean

Save money - it's rubbish

What a waste of time and money. One seal didn't work right out of the box. I saw it move in the hub as the motor turned and sure enough it was leaking so I replaced it with a SeaStar gasket. Now after twenty uses of the boat the second oil seal from this kit is leaking and the SeaStar oil seal is working properly. I made sure the tie rod didn't have any nicks or cuts - the failures were due to bad seals. Zero Star Product.

Gaskets not done properly

These seals are not manufactured correctly. The shaft diameter that these seals must seal is .746 inch. The original plastic sleeves are .749 inch in diameter. The seals you supplied me with the plastic bushing are both .770" in diameter which is .024 larger than the shaft. The seals held pressure until the shaft was lowered slightly onto the seal. Excessive play on the shaft caused the power steering to leak. The groove that the gasket sits in may be larger than the diameter but I can't measure

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • Other interesting options are available.

Poor quality, no contact with supplier

Both seals have been replaced. after a weekend both sides were leaking (dripping). It took a quarter bottle of hydraulic fluid to get back to the dock in 30 minutes. I went through everything again. Using a torque wrench, ensure the covers are tightened according to the instructions. Still bad flow. Went to Revain and contacted the supplier through the Revain site, couldn't find it online. Tried several times. I found a local shop that renovates them and bought a completely renovated building…

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • There are new competitors

Preparation is key to solving your problem

After using this kit for the first time I was disgusted that the hydraulic fluid started to leak within 2 weeks (right side first, left side after 1 week). Thought it was a crappy seal but did a little research and learned from others that the slightest imperfection on a shiny tie rod will cause a new seal to fail very quickly. Removed the inner tie rod, then took wet 1500 grit sandpaper and then 2000 grit and went the full length of the tie rod (take your time!). I cleaned the rod, lubricated…

Pros
  • Very Impressive
Cons
  • Boring Pack
