The Loneliest Man on Earth is a post-apocalyptic story

that I've wanted to read this book for many years because I liked The Last Man on Earth (1964) with Vincent Price. And surprisingly, the film adaptation was pretty close (except for a few details, of course). Robert Neville is seemingly able to survive an apocalypse caused by the plague. The bottom line is that the plague turns its victims into vampire zombies. Robert is immune but is haunted by the loss of his beloved family. What is really scary about both the book and the aforementioned film

A classic with a depressing end

writer Richard Mathison is himself a legend. This teasing tale of the last living human on earth and his efforts to eradicate the vampire plague peters out about halfway through this superbly written novel. The fifth chapter is sensational, but after that the novel bogs down in our protagonist's deconstruction of venerable vampire myths. The cross is not the way to kill a vampire. A classic horror story that rises above its adaptations

"I Am Legend" is a classic horror story. Some consider it a classic horror story. The influence of great contemporary horror authors like Stephen King will stay with you forever.
