It's like a rock scaring away a bear - I don't know.

I put this on the outside switch. It looks like a rock to scare away bears - I don't actually know if it protects my AC from power surges, but it looks reliable, my AC hasn't failed yet and it has a bright green LED which looks reassuring. The LED is quite bright and lights up like a beacon at night. There are only 3 wires to connect, so it's difficult to screw something up. Just turn off the power first - that's why I installed it in the breaker rather than on the main panel where it could…

Good, but some problems during installation

Everything is fine after installation. The power LED is a useful feature. However, when mounted to the side notch of a standard surface mount weatherproof plastic T-box, you will find that it is too thick to allow flush mounting of the box. I see this as an oversight in Intermatic's design. You should consider how this thing works with the types of junction boxes it plugs into. 10 gauge lines are a double edged sword. Yes, that might seem like an impressive feature, but they take up extra space

Even better the second time

I bought it for my caravan. The standard surge protector costs over $100 and allows you to use it outside the RV in inclement weather. No way. I stuffed a square power box into the camper and added this baby. This is the second time I use this surge protector. I also used it in my new heavy duty oven. If you're spending big bucks on expensive gear, why risk blowing it up with a power surge? I just don't understand why this expensive device doesn't have surge protection yet. This thing has a…

Easy to install and probably worth it.

Intermatic AG3000 is a good surge protector for HVAC outdoor units (compressor, condenser, fan). It can be installed as a Type 1 or Type 2 SPD. I installed it in a cutout at the bottom of the line-side external AC breaker. The installation is very easy. There are two black wires and one white wire. The black wires connect to each of the two 120V legs in the circuit breaker. The white wire is connected to the ground bar in the circuit breaker. The Romex wire that ran from the main panel to my AC

New unit. New standards. Easy installation.

This item came as expected and was new in packaging. Intermatic has a long history of manufacturing Surge Protection Devices (SPD). This device consists of two 150V clamping devices in a NEMA 4x enclosure. It is designed to be connected to two "hot" legs (standard split phase in residential applications) and ground. It is not designed to protect the neutral wire as most household condensing units don't have a neutral wire anyway. This is not an EMF or interference filter, it is simply a surge…

Easy to replace if you currently have a surge protector installed.

I've only had it a few days so can't comment on durability, but I ordered it because I need it from my house's HVAC company been contacted and check our heating before winter. They told me that the surge protector installed in our home was recalled and posed a fire hazard. It was a Supco SCM150 and after testing it turned out to be correct. I'm sure they installed it when they installed the new HVAC PAC on my roof but they told me the warranty was no longer valid even though it was voided! So I

  • Quick Start Guide

Easy to install. I like the thick wires and the green LED. Note that it has three wires for 240VAC use, e.g. B. For an AC condenser (compressor) outdoors: hot-ground-hot. It can also be used with 120VAC devices (e.g. an oven), but you'll need to find a schematic online for this application (you connect the second "hot" wire to the 120VAC neutral wire). The whole house surge protector for the electrical panel has four wires. So many modern devices have circuits built in that it really pays to…
