Excellent Hot Swap Controller for Debian 6 (Squeeze)

This controller is hot swappable and almost plug and forget in Debian 6. I have these cards with the Kingwin KF-1000 Tray -BK without a hot-plug drive coupled adapter as part of our remote backup strategy. We are very happy. Hot paste works great. Plug in the drive and it will automatically boot, registering at the SCSI level and creating the appropriate /dev/sdX and /dev/sdXN device nodes. With the right hotplug setup, you can also mount disk partitions automatically, but we didn't want that…

Not worth the time and effort

I bought this because I needed an eSATA port multiplier for my 4 hard drive enclosure that has eSATA + USB 3.0. Installed the card in a Win 7x64 system and installed the default drivers. Updated to the latest version from the Silicon Image site for SIL3132 (BASE drivers) and BIOS and it "seems to be working". Until the computer goes to sleep and I turn off the case to save power. When the computer wakes up from sleep mode and you turn on the eSATA enclosure, the hard drives are not recognized…

Mediocre but mostly working so far

I just received this card and installed it on a computer with 64-bit Windows 7. So far there are two problems with this card: 1 - driver (version 1.0.15.3 without Raid ) does not implement SMART commands, so you cannot monitor the status of your drives (e.g. temperature, errors, etc.)2. The driver does not implement the "safely remove hardware and remove media" feature that other eSATA interfaces offer. You need to go into Device Manager and manually remove eSATA drives when you no longer want…

New BIOS chipset is not supported by manufacturer

Bought the card after reading the reviews and seeing people update the BIOS to a newer version using the SiI bios update utility or remove the pseudo-raid functionality; As a ZFS user, the only thing the Raid feature gave me was an increase in load time. Unfortunately the card I received has a WinBond W39F010 bios chip which is *not* supported by Silicon Image's bios update utility. Considering that Syba doesn't update the BIOS for their products (they generally rely on the chip manufacturer)…
