I used black/blue on pre-bleached hair. The box didn't say anything about mixing, then I read the instructions and it said I need 10vol. I had already gone home and the store was too far, so I kept going. It did next to nothing to my hair other than turning it back to an uncomfortable brown, even after leaving it on for over an hour. Big disappointment.

Well my photos are about three weeks after dying from ash blonde to dark blonde. I have given my hair a break from coloring because it has been colored all over the place lately and needs a break. I have a naturally reddish/coppery tone that is very difficult to bring out with a dark brown dye, but this one does it well. I didn't focus on the weekly retouches. I bought 3 ion paints, in 3 different colors, and NONE of them worked. I bought a blue demi which washed off after 1 week. I bought a plum purple demi which washed off immediately after application. Then we decided why not, let's try her darkest brown.....also washed off immediately after application. I've seen Ion look great on women with short, healthy hair, but my long, not-so-healthy hair didn't hold the color at all. Not recommended for previously colored hair.

Do not buy! it's not worth your money. Go to Sally and buy a real ion brand. I bought "Dark Natural Brown" to match my natural roots. Instead, my hair turned blue-black! I wish I could hear other reviewers about this fake. Now my hair is pitch black and my roots are dark brown.

I bought it on purpose because it was supposed to be ppd free. Unfortunately, the patch test caused a severe reaction (redness and swelling lasting several days). It's possible that I'm allergic to more than one hair color chemical, so I'm not suggesting it's the manufacturer's fault. Just wanted to remind everyone (especially those allergic to PPD) to patch test regardless of labeling!

.if this confuses you, be aware that the packaging (cardboard box, as well as a colored foil tube) came creased and crumpled, but the tube withstood the beating. Everything ends up being the best brunette color I've had in a long time. Much luck!
