Not for UV-5RA!

If you have UV-5RA, do not buy this product! This is when you don't want to spend time using a Dremel tool to make it fit. CONS: Cheaply made Doesn't match radio listing (UV-5RA), maybe others Has NmHi battery size issues Latch is problematic

Pros
  • Excellent Construction
Cons
  • No Insurance

Radio will not broadcast

My radio will not broadcast with this battery box with fresh alkaline batteries (tested on 2 different radios). Accepted normal, menu functions work normally. Since purchasing (and returning) this case, I've read reports that it only works with lithium batteries, but I haven't tested this.

Pros
  • Weight
Cons
  • Very expensive

Good versatile product. Other "brands " are actually the same product.

DON'T THINK! Other "brands" sell the same thing! Even the box is the same. Difference! Another label! So don't fool them! And pay 2-3 times more. RE QUALITY: The protrusions that hold the 2 pieces together are VERY BRITTLE! They break easily! Be very careful with them.

Pros
  • Good thing
Cons
  • Little things

Caught fire today due to short circuit, buy with extreme caution.

Mine caught fire today, make sure yours isn't shorted out. Destroyed the battery compartment and with it 6 AA Eneloop. Also damaged the radiator it was standing on. I know there is a very specific order in this case that is not up to standard as I have owned it for many years. I used 6 freshly charged Eneloops today, after 3 minutes the smoke started.

Pros
  • Inspires confidence
Cons
  • Negative impression

Great to have in a pinch, but requires a bit of rigging to work properly.

Good as a last resort when the battery is low and you don't have a charger available and you can use the ubiquitous AA batteries. The fit and finish isn't great, getting in and out of the radio is a pain, and the rear battery cover doesn't snap properly (here's a manufacturing flaw - the clips don't go into their hole). , which requires tape or elastic to keep it closed.

Pros
  • Hands-free
Cons
  • Quality

Pros
  • Case only, batteries not included
Cons
  • Nothing

The problem is that the dimensions do not match the Baofent UV-5RA radio. Just a little off and very difficult to remove from the radio if you manage to plug it in. It took me about 10 minutes to tinker with, had to open the battery compartment during the spark, gently twist, etc. I was hoping an AA battery compartment would work, but I have a AAA case and it works great. , and the radio does not eat much battery. Sorry but they need to adjust the dimensions otherwise an AA case would be nice…

Pros
  • Convenient and practical
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

Good battery compartment

Good battery compartment. I had to change a bit to keep it closed. The body splits in half to allow you to load the cells. There are 2 small tabs on the top of the case to keep it closed and a latch on the bottom. The latch on the bottom didn't click into place once the cells were in place. Inside the case is a small bulkhead where the latch forms a 1/4 inch cavity. I took a thin piece of cardboard and stuck it into this cavity until it pushed the latch far enough to keep it closed. After these

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Having problems

If you can't charge a lithium battery this is a great alternative

Revain: On time delivery and informed Delivery in excellent time. Product: Fits perfectly, tested on arrival (Note: I had to bend one of the roll pins as it broke. I only do this in case someone else can avoid returning the item if the batteries aren't tight. Happens) . Otherwise a good addition to my radio if the battery charge is not possible. Thanks very much! On a note: reading some of the other reviews they reported problems with alkaline batteries etc which overloaded their devices…

Pros
  • Battery use: 6 AA NiMh/NiCd cells or 5 AA alkaline/zinc-carbon cells + a AA breadboard
Cons
  • Negative result present
