I think the cables and case is a very often overlooked component. I bought them for the rear derailleur. Having arthritis in my thumb, I have to make sure the cables move freely. The price is ok if you need to replace them regularly, which is what I do. Also, the cables are easy to swap out, and once you've done it once or twice, it's very easy to make the right choice.

The kit does the job well. This saves you the expense of purchasing more cable spools or a housing if you only need to replace one cable. I've read a few reviews from people who seem confused as to the hoses you need to use for a cable body versus the hydraulic hoses you would use for hydraulic disc brakes or hydraulic struts. It's not the same. Make sure you buy the right cord for the purpose.

I was contemplating replacing the cables on my mountain bike but after straightening the derailleur hanger, cleaned and lubricated the derailleur, cleaned the lube and checked the chain got, i'm still not happy with the shift. This new cable made downshifts a lot easier because I didn't struggle with cable friction, and quickened upshifts because the shifter didn't have to pull out the old, worn out cable. Now I am much happier with the switch.
