These are good bobby pins. They're certainly a lot "grittery" than regular safety pins, but I don't think the material is necessarily "rubber". It's more of a matte plastic. You don't get many of these for $5, especially if you keep losing your pins left and right like me. But I find them much better than the usual invisible bobby pins. I'm looking for the perfect rubberized bobbin thread clamp. I'm sure someone will like it. That someone is not me. I have thick wavy hair. Some of my hair is fine, some is coarse. These are 2 inch stealth clips not those long reel clips. They are fully covered in rubber so no metal is exposed. I've always used regular metal plated bobby pins this size, which worked great for my thick hair, but I've found them to cause scalp issues due to the metal sensitivity.
