🦎 Kaytee Lava Ledge Dual Pack Review

The smell of petrol/chemicals is so strong it was overpowering even after cleaning and soaking the strips. I threw them away, I'm not returning them for them to sell to another potential pet owner. There is no way they are safe for any type of pet.

I've been buying these Kaytee lava ledges for our pet rats for YEARS! And they've never smelled like this before. Very strong smell of petrol/turpentine. There's no way we can put them in a cage with our rats. They are meant to be chewed and I can't imagine this being a safe product to chew on. It literally stinks from a few meters away! What the hell happened?

I don't know if Kaytee found a new manufacturer or changed their recipe, but now they have a strong gasoline or garage smell. I mean STRONG. When I opened the packaging, I noticed the smell, which I still can't get rid of even after washing. They are also significantly inferior to the lava bar I bought a year ago with a new type of washer and screw that doesn't have the same durability.

I just opened mine and it smells horrible. I could smell it as soon as I opened the packaging but didn't realize it was a real product until I put it in the chinchilla cage. Will definitely be returning it as I'm uncomfortable with gifting it. We have bought this brand before and have never had a smell. I don't know what's changed, but I don't recommend giving it to my furry babies.

The only reason it gives one star is because 2 would have been nice. But what does it matter if you have to return it?! I bought one of these about 2 years ago, but I haven't had a problem with any "smell". The "chemical/paint smell" on them was awful! I left them open for 2 days to see if the smell goes away. nope! Couldn't I use it for the health of my birds in good conscience! This is what put me off this product!

Slats smell like mothballs. I washed them a few times in hot water and vinegar, soaked them and left them in the sun for a few days. It got rid of most of the smell unless you poke your nose in, but after a week in the cage it was finally gone. This causes the color to fade, which doesn't bother me personally. I received these tabs just three days ago 5/18/21. I wouldn't normally write a review so quickly, but these deserve an exception. They seem well made and worthy of 5 stars apart from their smell as other reviewers have mentioned. They smell strongly of mothballs or something very similar.
