This is a good thick mat. Self-healing is good so far, although I've only been using it for a few hours. There is a chemical smell when you first open it. I sat outside for a couple of hours and the smell almost completely disappeared. After that it smelled faintly for a few days, but you had to get very close to your face to notice it. It's completely gone now. Overall, this is way better than anything I've seen in craft stores at this price point.

I bought this mat to use on my desk. I repair electronics and small appliances. That's cool. One thing it's good at is that if I throw small screws or pieces, they don't bounce as far. It also has some mobility when screwing in the mounting screws. The measuring scales on the sides are also practical. For soldering I use a small silicon mat on top. I haven't tested if it's heat resistant, but I suspect it isn't. If I move, I'll take a bigger one.
