Second HDMI port fails

Bought this docking station about 4 months ago just to use extra monitors (2 + my laptop). After 4 months the HDMI port started failing without any problems. This is NOT my laptop, it is a docking station specifically a standard size HDMI port. Without warning, the monitor is dimmed or the resolution is split. I changed the monitor, changed HDMI ports, still the same problem with the identified HDMI port. The only solution is to turn off the dock or unplug the HDMI cable and plug it back in.

  • New
Cons

Excellent docking station

That's all I wanted to have all the ports in the right place - 3 USB on the back for external data drives, HDMI on the back for my second desktop monitor that I use with my Macbook Pro, Gigabit Ethernet on the back. The card reader is on the front, as is a headphone jack and 2 other USB ports (one of them with high power for charging). Well, at least outside of the arrangement of everything. The build quality is excellent. It's also heavy enough to stay in place with everything plugged in…

Pros
  • Brilliantly made
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

Do not buy if you have a new Macbook Pro 2020

Something is wrong with the compatibility of this dock with the new Macbook Pro 2020. I have sent two inquiries to the support team in Kensington what also happened I do not even admit it, which is probably related to the pandemic, but to warn other users, when the dock is connected, the computer does not restart, but shuts down and does not restart until you press and hold the power button for 15 seconds and then press something several times quickly and it starts. It's a lot of button wear…

  • Finally bought
Cons
  • Almost everything is fine

More than I need though.

The Kensington SD5300T Dock has more USB 2/3 ports than I will ever need. I bought it to use with my new Macbook Air and it suits my needs. The included power adapter allows me to leave the charger and cord elsewhere. I would have liked to see an included USB-C to VGA adapter instead of the included USB-C to HDMI. What attracted me to this device was the length of the Thunderbolt 3 connection cable. This allows you to place the dock away from the laptop and doesn't take up valuable desk space…

Good but expensive

I feel like this product did a really good job while I was able to use it. I ran into an issue that is entirely Apple's fault - my MacBook was the only model all year that didn't support Thunderbolt. If you didn't explicitly list Thunderbolt in your MacBook's specs, it works for a minute and then crashes with a "Thunderbolt isn't supported on this Mac" message. When connecting Thunderbolt, however, it does exactly what it promises. It's easy to set up, you get plenty of ports and good…

It just works! for computers and accessories

Since I bought a MacBook Pro last year I've been struggling to find a device that would allow me to add 2 continuous monitors, have USB ports and an ethernet port and charge my computer, so everything what i need to do is hook up a thing and get started. I've tried many other things that cost around $100 like j5. Nothing worked. My latest device kept crashing my computer. I thought it was the computer and found out it was the device drivers. After upgrading to Catalina, the device didn't work…

  • All right!
Cons
  • Not sure

Good quality dock at a good price

I bought this for my 13" MacBook Pro after a year of trying to find a good dock. It had the best mix of ports, monitor outs etc. There's nothing superfluous about it. Unlike some cheaper hubs it comes with a power adapter and was plug and play from the start. Unlike Henge it doesn't get very hot. The design is nice although I personally love it would have preferred the side/rear audio jack. Pros: - If you look at what's there, it's a pretty good price at $200 after coupon. Based on Kensington's

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • poorly designed
