Measurements start at the end of the tape, not the ring/hook. This means that you have to offset what you are attaching the ring to by 1 inch, the diameter of the ring. I bought one of these at 100ft 5 years ago for use in my shop. This is a great long lasting tape that has been used almost every workday for the past 3 years. I found the only weak point was the hook which broke after about 2 years and I had to make my own hook. Also about 3 years old, mark the nylon with numbers separate from the metal tape around the 5ft mark and below that I taped in place.
