After taking the key to a car dealership to have it cut and activated, I was told the chip was fake. The key was cut off and fit into the "key starter" but the chip didn't work so the car choked and wouldn't start. I had to throw it away because I was told it could damage the car. So it doesn't work for advertised cars, at least not for Lexus.

ordered this key for a 2004 Lexus GX470. Gave the key to the first locksmith on site and he was able to cut the key but not program it. I then took it to Batteries Plus and was given instructions. to program but it didn't work. I took it to a second locksmith today and after programming two other keys for this car they were unable to program this key. The locksmith informed me that the key did not have a chip. total fraud. do not buy! total fraud. do not buy! total fraud. do not buy!

I was able to program the remote but Techstream kept saying it couldn't communicate with the key. So I took it to a local locksmith who opened it up and told me the chip was the problem. Apparently the chip is not compatible with my 2006 GX470. He changed it to a working one, cut off the key, and off we went. It was still a lot less money than I would spend on a new master key at a dealership, so I'm still happy. However, if the chip was correct, I could program the immobilizer myself and save…
