I ordered a vest in size 5-6. I would say it fits true to size and would be great for a 5 year old. My son usually wears a size 5T even though he's not yet 5 years old. This sweater vest is big for him and he has room to grow. I think he'll fit well when he's five. It looks good. Feels soft and comfortable. Material 100% knitted cotton. Looks great over a shirt and suits any occasion.

I don't think we've ever washed this item, but maybe once. On the third wear there was a hole in the seam connecting the edge of the sleeve (white stripe) to the rest of the garment. Upon examination, it turned out that this was not my son's hole, but was simply poorly sewn on the model we ordered. Maybe others don't have this problem, depending on the released "batch". We couldn't fix it so we had to throw it away.
