SD media card connector stopped working after four months. Other than that, only a USB 3 device like an external drive works fine when running in FCPX or Logic Pro, but when I plug in another USB 3 device like an audio interface (Focusrite 2i2), the external drive starts up to click and disappears . This is a 2017 OWC model 7200 RPM external drive. Nucleum will not recognize a three year old external USB-3 from G-Technology or OWC MacSales. So for the price, I was expecting a more powerful hubโ€ฆ

Great way to add ports on Ipad 12.9

. The charger works for Ipad 12.9 with USB-C port, so you can charge other devices at the same time. The only remark that the product came, it had a defective connector which ate up the charge on my iPad. They sent a replacement within a few days and the new one seems to be working fine. Now a few months later the port is failing and my iPad is not charging. Everything I plug into ports gets in the way and wants to automatically save the screen to my Ipad. NOT a UHS-ii compatible device!

According to Kingston's website, the SD reader must support UHS-ii speeds, while the Micro card only supports uhs-i. I thought it was a bit odd to have two different bus speeds but figured it was Kingston and not some unknown company selling cheap products online. Unfortunately, in all of my testing, none of my UHS-ii cards were able to reach higher speeds than UHS-i, around 80MB/s. Using the same UHS-ii cards and a Sandisk ImageMate Pro reader, I get my 200MB/s when transferring content. Iโ€ฆ

Finally a hub with the RIGHT ports

I really like this hub. First, thermal properties. I can connect all ports at the same time and it only gets a little warm. This makes a big difference for me as other hubs I've tried get hot even with just a few parts connected. Second, the location of the ports. I love that there is a USB-A port on BOTH sides, so no matter how your desk is set up, you always have the USB socket in front of you. Having HDMI on the long end of the hub makes it an extension of HDMI, which is much better thanโ€ฆ

Not cheap, but worth it

Ordered this for my new MacBook as it only has a USB-C port. At first I only used it to charge my MacBook while backing up to an external USB-C hard drive (LaCie LaCie Rugged 1TB USB-C and USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive + 1 Month Adobe CC All Apps (STFR1000800)). Has worked flawlessly. I then got a 4k TV as a combo "projection screen" for my office, but I also wanted to use it as an external monitor. Since Apple doesn't support 4k AirPlay, I had to connect via HDMI. After reading all the badโ€ฆ

Works but not the solution I was looking for.

Nucleum is a good hub and it works, I've tried everything except SD cards. Am I happy with that? Not really. The core as such is not to blame. What I really wanted was a way to power my device at the same time when I'm using the headset, the multi-hour business meeting use case. The hub is great for this while I use my mobile device's charger to keep it powered. Plugging only into my computer's USB-A port or USB-A into a power strip drains my battery faster than using the headset on batteryโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Not bad

I've had this for a long time and am using it with the new 2018 i9 MacBook Pro. I looked at many USB-C dongles and settled on this one after watching a comparison video that said it had the best heat distribution. It's nicely designed, has plenty of ports, and is quite compact. But that's all for professionals. There is a serious problem with this key when working with more than one device (SD card, hard drive, etc.). If you have one device connected and a second device connected, the firstโ€ฆ
