Excellent headphones, awkward case

After losing my favorite Klipsch X11i headphones I immediately ordered a few more and upgraded to the XR8i. The sound quality is great and the extra bass on this model is a big upgrade over the X11i. This would be a 5 star rating if it weren't for the incredibly sticky and useless case that comes with the headphones. At this price I would expect the case to at least fit the headphones. It really isn't; It's actually impossible to slide the headphones into the case and then fold them in half to…

Pros
  • Useful not only for its intended purpose
Cons
  • No machine gun

Beautiful sound, amazing bass

These headphones are top notch. Smooth mids, clear, beautifully detailed highs and excellent bass. These phones don't use the "house curve" to artificially boost bass, so some may equate this to "deep bass". However, when the bass signal is really there, they are deafening. These phones should be connected to an external DAC/amplifier. I use Fiio which allows me to boost the bass a bit which warms up the sound and gives a really nice low end. These phones are made of high quality metal…

(+) great sound, comfortable (-) big size, hard cable

Simply put, they outperform my other Klipsch S4s. R6, R6II and X6. And they should, as they rank higher in the product range than others. I think the upside is the under $200 price point, the performance upgrade is well worth the extra bucks over the smaller models. Two notes about this and every Klipsch earphone. 1) Don't assume that the same elliptical Klipsch ear tips as other Klipsch headphones will fit in your ears on this model. Because Klipsch packed an extra driver, they're the bulkiest

Comparison with other Klipsch X series

I have tried r6i, x6i, xr8i, x12i sound except x20i which is out of my budget. I'm not an audiophile. I only pick what seems cool enough to me. r6 seems perfectly normal without much fuss. x6 is pretty cool - the sound is clear and bright. When I tried the xr8i on boy was I impressed. I personally like bass. It wasn't overly strong, which I don't think is good for my eardrums on prolonged listening, but instead it feels warm and bouncy. I believe the x6 and xr8 use the same drivers except the…

Still a little pricey even at $179

updated Original MSRP is $279 and I definitely wouldn't bother with them at that price, so my review is based on the $179 price tag . It's still too much for what's on offer. Build Quality: B- they feel like they'll last a while while I babysit them. While the cable is quite thick and the headphone case is solid, the audio jack is what worries me the most. It appears to be designed to accelerate wear as it is not L-shaped. This means that plugging these things into a 3.5mm jack is a problem if…
