Save your money! on Rough Plumbing

I purchased a KOHLER K-1117210 1.28 Flush Valve Kit to replace an existing part that started to "hang" after flushing. I never managed to get this part to work properly. The bowl was never filled more than a few cups of water after rinsing. I have contacted Kohler three times about this issue. The usual conversation about how to do better was given. never worked I bought a Fluidmaster 2" Flush Valve Repair Kit (507AK) and installed it on a Kohler tank. Works great! Trash and waste of time

This product is a piece of junk. This is our second flush valve kit (the first came from Lowe's) and it allows for *constant* leakage so the toilet is ALWAYS refilled. No exaggeration. The thing just doesn't serve its purpose. We bought a house with this toilet; If you're considering a new toilet, don't go with Kohler because parts for them are a waste of your sanity, your free time, and your money. I turned off the water in the toilet when I started this review; The picture shows how muchโ€ฆ

Good purchase of spare parts, but shouldn't have been necessary.

This was a good purchase to replace a broken stem on the center stuffing tube. This tube was never meant to break, but it was due to a very poor and flimsy design. We have four of these toilets and had issues with the rubber o-ring which allows water to leak in and waste 5,000 gallons a month (just one toilet) until I realized it was a rubber gasket with black spots, through the water could flow down the toilet underneath. I complained to KOHLER and the lady sent me ONE replacement pad, a $6โ€ฆ

Needs a bit of work to install but works as intended

Probably due to wear on the gasket that the 'bucket' is attached to we had a slow leak which caused the filled the toilet unevenly. once. While more expensive, buying this entire kit and replacing the entire mechanism seemed like a better course of action than just replacing the gasket. Yes, a little more effort, but now all the parts are new. The plastic nut on the bottom of the flush valve (factory installed in our case) was difficult to loosen, but once loosened the rest of the process wasโ€ฆ

Buy plumbing key!

As an extreme DIY enthusiast, be prepared to spend an hour replacing a valve. If I had to rate this Kohler toilet I would give it 2 stars because you have to remove the tank and then you really need a wrench to loosen the big nut on the bottom. I spent at least 45 minutes trying different tools to loosen the nut. I ended up cutting the rubber gasket off the nut so I could barely unscrew the nut with a pipe wrench. If you have a large channel block, this will likely work as well. If the pipeโ€ฆ

Genuine Kohler part, but you may not need to replace this part

My Kohler K4436 toilet internally drained water from the water storage tank for an extended period of inactivity - say a few days. I came to the conclusion that I had to replace the entire purge valve to replace its internal seal. Well, live and learn! The inner seal is easily replaced without having to remove the entire purge valve. If your problem is similar to mine, simply purchase the GP1059291 (Yellow) Kohler Gasket - available from Revain. On the back of the packaging you will findโ€ฆ

Now everything is good! Ease of installation. remove PAIN!

HELL CALL! As others have said, this is a full PITA to get involved. Especially if you don't have a garage full of tools. I could barely loosen the bottom nut with a vice that barely did the job. HARDLY! Definitely recommend making sure you have a plumber's wrench or something. Otherwise it was relatively easy to install new parts. I'm inclined to think that all that would be needed is a new gasket, but we decided to just replace everything as the tubing from the flush valve to the fill valveโ€ฆ
