I bought this lock specifically to use as a connecting link for a Schlage security chain with a 12 mm tulip ring. As with most Kryponite locks, it is solid and well made. I bought this with a Schlagle Loop chain because it was cheaper to buy each one than a set. Also, the brake discs on my bike aren't perforated, so the more compact disc locks don't fit. It works well, I can ride it through small gaps between the brake disc and the hub. I then thread it through a link on a loop chain that I've attached around a pole set in concrete.
