Knife sharpening was learned on Arkansas stone This is a good size for sharpening everything from pocket knives to carving knives. The case makes it easy to use on a counter or bench. Sharp knives are safety knives and can be kept that way. Washing dishes for some reason makes them dull, so one or three regular wipes will do. The sharpening is a lot better than one of those "Chef" sharpeners. Some advocate using a harder stone for the edges, but a softer stone works great.

Pros
  • Made in China
Cons
  • boring packaging

Top of the range

A good Arkansas stone can be purchased from almost any scope, but this scope is good for its size. I have a few 6" x 2" rocks to work with, but the extra 2" is fine, especially with a large knife. Also, the rock actually arrived in a green plastic holder, not the one on wood holder shown in the picture. the picture which is a bonus in my version. It is more durable, has non-slip pads on the bottom and can handle the 'elements' better than a wooden base. sharp edges on their blades.

Pros
  • Made from the highest quality materials
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

Great item for shaping knives

Exceptional stone! For many years I have adopted the simple and practical habit of using sharpeners on my knives. I haven't used a stone in a hundred years. But I need knives for work, and they have to be sharp. I've decided to buy this. I'm so glad I did. This stone gives my blades amazing sharpness. It's a good size, wide enough and long enough to allow for long passes. I've only used it by pouring water on it and that's really all it takes, making it easier and less messy. That's all I want…

  • Built for performance and durability
Cons
  • Out of date
