Great Sound: External Sound Cards

Purchased after my PC's onboard audio stopped working. I bought a simpler device that solved the sound recovery issue, but quickly realized I needed a more reliable device. This Leagy USB sound card has many features and in my case the most important is the "line in" port which allows me to record from an external device. My project has been saved!

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

Expand your audio experience

I bought this sound card because I thought it could capture 2 channel audio from 2 separate microphones. Unfortunately it mixes 2 microphone inputs into one channel. It never claimed 2-channel audio recording to be honest, but I wish there was a button to toggle between mixing the mic inputs and splitting for 3D audio recording. The audio quality isn't the best, but it can be used. Buttons on this sound card enable microphone muting and volume control. Strangely, the volume buttons briefly…

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly

Works very well.: External sound cards

This sound card sounds very good and is ideal for sound recordings. The only downside is that it's not plug and play, you have to install the software and drivers first. It comes with a 3 inch CD that you need to install before using, otherwise it will not work properly. But overall I like the sound quality and I've used the optical out and in to connect to my DAT and MD deck and it works. Sounds much better than the sound on my laptop.

Pros
  • Quick change
Cons
  • Almost never

A solid external sound card for my needs

I use Micro-PC as an entertainment system. I had a 5.1 surround sound system, an extra TV and an extra microcomputer, so I installed it at the gym. In any case, I needed something with an optical output to the receiver as the micro PC's display port didn't work well with the HDMI converter. So I ran DP>HDMI>TV and had to drop my receiver. This little external card did it. I had to install the drivers from the CD that came with it. Lame in 2021 - Windows was supposed to pick up and install

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Almost everything there

USB Sound "Box " on external sound cards

Works quite well. I recently lost the sound on my computer. Although one day I will rip it apart and replace the sound chip with an MB, I can't do that now. This little box works very well. The installation is very easy. The only complaint I have is that the sound has no bass/treble controls. Mine sounds very bass-heavy, which is what I like about most music. However, while playing, the voices are difficult to understand. A customization would be a great addition to this box. I would recommend…

Pros
  • Looks good
Cons
  • No instructions

Everything I was NOT looking for

Not expecting much but disappointed nonetheless. I was looking for an optical USB output. This box came with extra volume buttons, a blindingly bright blue LED, lots of low-quality analog audio I/O, very short cables, and a driver CD that I can't fit into any of my computers. Drivers aren't readily available online either, and the device name is completely absent. Good luck finding and installing random programs on your computer. Guess what's not working? optical output. I have no reason to…
