Based on other reviews I ordered a size larger than my son usually wears. He usually wears size 8 pants. I ordered a size 10. Unfortunately, the ribbons are for decoration only and cannot be adjusted. We had to fold down the waist belt to ensure they stay put. I ordered these in gold for my 10 year old son for his Halloween costume this year. I read the reviews that they run small so I ordered a size 12 for him. It works great having a small waist as my son is very tall (he is 5ft) but very skinny. As a rule, waist-hugging trousers are too short for him. They fit perfectly in waist and length. I bought these pants for my 11 year old son. He is 5'1" tall and weighs 87 pounds. He is slim with long skinny legs and it's hard to find pants that are tight enough in the waist but long enough for his legs.
