Description of Leviton SmartlockPro Weather Resistant Tamper Resistant Receptacle

For an added layer of protection, the GFCI regularly conducts an automatic internal test to confirm that it can respond to a ground fault. Provides continuous ground fault protection detects and trips on actual ground fault even when self test is being conducted. Status indicator light provides simple, intuitive feedback on power and protection status as well as indication of line/load reversal. Patented lockout action prevents reset if GFCI is damaged and cannot respond to a ground fault. Slim, shallow design reduced depth makes it easier to install in any electrical box, even shallow ones.

Frustration and failure

The tricky little test and reset buttons make it difficult to use, as at least one other review commented. But to make matters worse, out of the two units I bought, one spontaneously failed with a very loud hum and the smell of something melted. And this at a time when it was not being used and less than a week after its installation. I would hate to see how this device could fail if an actual ground fault occurs.

Suitable for replacing street sockets

Good instructions, reliable product. GFCI sockets are more expensive, but for an outside socket (which I replaced) it seems worth protecting against potential problems. Note: I ignored the instructions at first and just copied the wiring from the old can. It was an error - no fire, nothing, but the socket did not reset. I then unplugged everything, followed the instructions step by step to make sure the line/load is properly distinguished and everything works great.

Proof of Stupidity - Easy Installation

Low profile provides additional wallbox space and simplifies installation. Leviton provided silly proof of installing extra power cords. The bottom is taped over and clearly marked for additional downline sockets. An added bonus is the LED lighting. "IF" you have more than two sets of cords in your outlet, BUY THIS LOW PROFILE. Previously purchased another brand and was unable to properly plug the GFCI connector into the box with 3 sets of 14/3 wires. Thank you Leviton for making the…

did not help, probably a fake.

I'm pretty sure that the product I received was a fake. The outlet was not working properly. The multimeter showed 120V at the screws. Connect something at the top, the switch works immediately. The bottom outlet worked until it was unplugged and then worked. I double checked my wiring and asked someone else to double check me as well. I went to HD and picked up the "same" article. Connected exactly the same, works great. There were a lot of different inscriptions on the store-bought packaging.

  • I really don't like anything, everything is fine

worked less than a year. I expected more from Leviton. less than fur.

Supplies a 25Amp aquarium pump. Sometimes I rarely add a 5Amp charger but it didn't last a year. The previous ship had everything connected but lasted over 4 years. Unfortunately I didn't think to write what it was. Maybe it's a fake? I do not know. Throw it out and replace it with a "real" WR "Chinese". Let's see if it lasts longer or not. Another data point is the external output. but closed and protected by a weatherproof box and inside the terrace. Nothing comes straight to him. But it is…

Excellent performance but questionable reliability

Fits right and works great. Very easy installation with good instructions if needed. Not sure why 2x of my original (WR rated) have failed and not reset after 3 years. They were (professionally) installed outside the house in neat boxes and hardly used. They didn't get wet and there are no obvious wiring issues. Edit: I ordered a third one to upgrade another old outlet and this one seems to go bad right away. The device is powered on, but will not reset after a self-test. I ordered a…

Cons
  • Upgradeable

The socket has a good GFCI WR rating. The instructions are clearly marked on the device which wires connect to which screws. In addition to the black and gold screws, it marks the load/line and hot/white wire connections. I replaced an old existing outlet and box with this one. Installation was particularly difficult, through no fault of that outlet. The wires were long enough to reach the screws with little effort, very difficult to move, and I found it very awkward to turn them 40F…

self test trust their quality and installability. I recommend following the instructions provided and not based on how the device was plugged into the previous outlet. I did it the first time and it wasn't connected correctly, but when the green light didn't come on and I couldn't reset it, I realized I had connected it wrong. There were only two wires to connect to the first socket, so fixing my mistake was pretty easy. The second outlet I had to plug in had four wires and I thought I followed
