Description of 🐜 Illuminated Ant Habitat Kit for Kids: A Bright and Educational Experience

Watch real ants dig intricate tunnels: Know what’s even cooler than a plain old ant habitat full of sand? One that’s made with bright blue, space-age gel that glows! Watch your harvester ants dig intricate tunnels through the same type of gel that ants were sent to the moon in. Then, turn on the lights – the whole ant habitat glows! It’s not only crazy-cool to look at, but the lights can also encourage the ants to dig deeper into the gel. Includes beautiful and extensive 16-page learning book: Ants are fascinating insects with super-duper strength, human-like ways of interacting, and oddball features (like the butt of an Australian green ant tastes sort of like a lime! Ew.). This Learning Guide is full of cool, scientific information about ants. NOTE: Due to regulatory restrictions ants cannot be shipped to Oregon or Hawaii. A fun and educational gift for all ages: It's not often that a science project can be fun and engaging, but this set achieves both! Great set for individual play or as a group activity. It fascinates children as soon as they pull it out of the box and is a perfect STEM project. It fosters a love for science and paleontology in a fun and exciting way.

My 8 year old loves this!

Bought for my 8 year old son for Christmas. I opened it before packing to figure out how to order the ants. I went ahead and ordered the ants and they arrived a few days before Christmas to be ready. Ants are $5 including shipping. He really likes this ant farm and it's great to watch them dig their tunnels. They even bury their dead in the corner of the farm which was strange to me but very interesting to know about. We love that it has a light that makes it a lot easier to see the ants in…

Ant Supplement.

I bought this as a Christmas present for my daughter so we haven't used it yet to see the quality. However, I have to say I was disappointed that the pictures said 'Voucher for live ants included' but didn't say you have to pay extra for it. They only cost $4, but if I had known that beforehand, it would have influenced my purchase decision. There are also some shipping restrictions depending on the weather, so I probably wouldn't pick another time for this gift given it's winter. We'll either…

Gel acts like quicksand for ants

This habitat for ants started out amazing. I read all the instructions and ended up paying almost $30 for live ants. On the second day they started digging BUT I woke up this morning and they all looked dead. I promise I haven't done anything crazy like not giving them fresh air, not letting them get cold or anything. I contacted the people I bought the ants from and they said there are many gel habitats that can actually kill ants. dr Milton's gel ant farm is reportedly a success. Well it…

The LEDs went out within a week and all the ants died.

I really regret buying this ant farm. When we received it, it seemed very good, it seemed to be of high quality, and the light felt nice. I ordered the ants and they started digging the first day they got there so I thought we were a hit. It turned out that they only borrowed a day and a half, and now they are lazy, lethargic and dying. The first death ended in cannibalism and ant parts scattered everywhere. Since then they go to their tunnels to die, actually that's all they do in the tunnels.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Doubt

Couldn't keep ants alive

I tried at least different types of ants but none of them started tunneling before they died. First we found the ants outside and put them inside after building some tunnels for them. . Two entered her and died before they could get out. The rest died on the surface within a week. Maybe a week later the ants I ordered in the mail arrived. These ants had strong mouths compared to the native ants we used previously. If they were holding on to something while attempting to escape, they would be…
