Great little meter but --- I don't like dead batteries!

Easy/easy to use and hopefully accurate gauge. I like the very thin contacts and the fact that they have to be pushed in deeply to activate the device. Battery empty on arrival (1.81V) as in other reviews, hence 4 instead of 5 stars. Someone must have bought it, installed the battery and returned it.

Pros
  • Decent performance

  • Expensive

Dead battery. How old is that thing?

The 9V battery is completely empty. Sure, it's zinc charcoal batter (they're less likely to leak once they're on the shelf). But I'm wondering how old this thing is and will it last as long as a newer one? I tested it with a neighbor and it gives the same reading as his, so that's good. I believe he lived with him for several years and it is surprising that his original battery was weak but not dead. So is the one I just bought older than him? My battery is completely empty, his battery is low.

Best wood jig I've ever used

Really well done. Basically, I measure the moisture content of various stacks of firewood to determine the ideal soaking time. The tool is well made and quite easy to use. You should follow the instructions as you need to check the temperature chart (or at least do a simple calculation) and make sure the unit is set up for the right type of wood. fits perfectly in a breast pocket so you can easily carry it around without worrying about the (super sharp) probes getting stuck in your leg when you

The battery will be DOA. They must be removed before shipping.

If you buy one of these in 2021 or later be aware that they contain cheap 9 volt batteries that have been stored for over 2 years and are completely dead. Mine measured 2.3V - the device won't even turn on. They really need to be removed from storage and take out the batteries - soon the batteries inside will leak and destroy the rest of the units in storage. The installation of a spare battery is also not trivial. The circuit board can come loose and aligning the plastic cases isn't easy and…

Came with a dead battery

The first thing I had to do was open it and replace the 9v battery that came with it as it was dead. The circuit board has popped out and when putting it on the mounting pins you have to be very careful to put the micro switch lever in the right position or the device will not work. So what are my claims, is the battery really dead? And why the circuit board always separates as soon as you touch the battery connector. It comes out too easy. It needs to be fixed with a few screws. For the price…

Great wood meter well worth the extra money

Chopping, stacking and storing wood is hard work I wanted something that worked well to quickly measure moisture content This tester is more expensive but the woodworking very hard physical work is worthwhile. I tried the cheaper orange wireless kind and got so many different readings on my wood that I decided to send it back and try this instead and it's amazing. It has both short and long pens, as well as an easy-to-read display and belt holster. The green cap can be used on the opposite end…

Absolutely Basic Moisture Tester

I needed a moisture meter as part of a home renovation project but didn't want to spend a fortune or buy a cheap product that would give questionable results. I chose this item as a compromise and was not disappointed. The counter is very easy to use. Using the supplied wood species chart, set the gauge to the appropriate scale (2 or 3), insert the gauge probes and check the reading. That's all. It takes about 2 seconds to get a reading and you're on your way. I tested the device on fir, pine…

Sensor on the underside of high quality instruments

WHY MOISTURE MEASUREMENTS ARE IMPORTANT. Wood has the amazing ability to shrink when dry and expand (swell) when wet. I learned this the hard way about 25 years ago when I was building a beautiful rustic table out of planks of unknown moisture content. and after a few weeks I found that my properly aligned boards were shrinking and creating unsightly 3/16 inch gaps between them. It is reported that 90% of parquet installation problems are due to moisture levels. Usually the moisture level is…
