Product performs as designed/manufactured. Detects carbon dioxide in the coolant. Responded to the breath test (breathed into the tester). Used in a free AutoZone block tester. Just be sure to leave enough space above the coolant so the coolant doesn't get sucked into the tester.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Vanish

Not sensitive enough

The tester only turned yellow when I placed it directly on the exhaust pipe and tons of exhaust fumes shot through the pipe, and even then the change wasn't very dramatic. I have used it on a 1.7 liter Honda Civic which usually has a leaking head gasket. The color hasn't changed, but the dealer kit has changed (the bubbles on top were yellow and the liquid was blue). I followed the instructions exactly.

Pros
  • Permanent test results
Cons
  • Secret

Probably not sensitive enough

I have a GMC 2500HD Duramax that I think has a head gasket leak. Bought this kit along with diesel oil. As a double function check, I put the exhaust from the exhaust pipe through the tester. The liquid changed color for a long time. Can't figure out how it will work well enough to detect combustion products in the coolant surge tank.

Pros
  • Pretty packaging
Cons
  • Unfashionable

Not suitable for fuel leak detector

I followed the instructions and the liquid did not change color which pleased me very much as it does not indicate a leak. So I decided to fit a tester to bleed the air out of the exhaust pipe and to my surprise the fluid from the combustion fumes didn't turn as yellow as it should. The exhaust pipe is exhaust fumes and the liquid did not turn as yellow as it should. So I don't know if I got a false negative when sucking gases out of the radiator.

Pros
  • Handy item
Cons
  • Cord is shorter than other picks

This tester worked great and saved me a lot of money.

This tester worked great! And it saved me a lot of money. The only problem I had was keeping the heater coolant from expanding too much into the tester (which would affect the color), which I solved by simply sticking my thumb in the top of the radiator to check the coolant level to lower something. It gets hot, so a rubber glove helps. The tester showed that there is NO leakage in the engine through the cylinder head gasket. The mechanic was wrong. Instead, the mechanic installed a faulty…

Pros
  • Great for a small house
