Too hot to touch and could burn someone.

Hot πŸ”₯ Surprised nothing else caught Fire because this device was so hot. Please protect your family and do not buy this product.

Provided by the employer. Bought a second one because of portability. Both have been working great for 2 years.

Surprised by the low ratings. It gets warm, but that's not a problem. I run a 4K monitor and multiple USB devices (hard drives, mice, keyboard) with each of these devices. SD and microSD readers work fine.

Didn't last 9 months.

Work bought this for me (brand new). It gets pretty hot just running a single HDMI monitor (that is, powered by USB-C and HDMI out). When I first noticed the overheating issue I figured it was going to take too long - and I was right - it took almost 9 months. This morning the HDMI monitor was not receiving a signal and my MacBook Pro was not charging. The monitor works great plugged directly into my MacBook Pro.
