Great hardware for professionals or experimenters

The tip of my old soldering iron was too big to work with tiny SMD (Surface Mount Device) parts. I asked a foreman at an assembly shop that makes 1,000 SMD electronic boards a month and he told me that his team really likes the Edsyn 951SX. After more than a year of use, I understand why. The tips are much narrower than my old Weller piston, making it relatively easy to solder individual SMD pins with a 0.025" centering. The temperature control feature is useful when soldering large and small…

Pros
  • Highly rated by testers for support and durability
Cons
  • Not as thick as others

After years of working with soldering guns and pens, I got myself a Loner a few years ago. A thermostatically controlled soldering station is an incredible improvement over both a basic soldering pen and one of those soldering stations where you can adjust the temperature of the tip with a dial, but without thermostatic control the temperature of the tip won't stay where you want it to be es.. This loner has been running for about six years with his first spare head and now with his second…

Pros
  • Dope πŸ”₯
Cons
  • Expensive

I have used many soldering irons and if you are looking for a quality soldering iron for professional use or heavy duty hobby use this is absolutely your kid. I have used Metcal irons which I liked better but the parts are MUCH more expensive. Replacement tips for Edsyn irons are surprisingly affordable as they are designed for floor standing assembly aerospace irons. Especially if you like very thin tips this is your baby as you can get a few of these and they work well. It's an investment…

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Long delivery time
