Item returned and QC didn't check if everything is there - fixed

Item arrived, eagerly awaited for urgent project. The item was clearly returned by another buyer as it wasn't shrink wrapped like others I've had. Also, the stand and screw to attach the m.2 drive to the case were missing. I will update my review once I get a very late replacement. ***Update: They sent a new one that included all the necessary parts. It works fine, presumably the case helps dissipate the heat a bit, although I don't expect this ngff drive to get really that hot.

My data saved! - Hard drive accessories

This converter saved my data! My girlfriend hit my iPhone laptop and filled it with water from a bottle. My Razer Blade's cooling fans are like a jet engine that's about to explode and of course will eventually die. So I tried to save my data. The screen is cracked, the battery is wet and the motherboard is completely wet, but my SSD was surprisingly well protected by the cables connecting the battery to the motherboard. I took it out and connected it to the converter with my new laptop. Click!

Worked great for cloning my old M.2 board

I installed my new 500GB M type, plugged it into my computer and it showed up fine in Macrium Reflect. cloned. I threw the old one back. Was fun installing that little screw to attach the new one to the MB. Ran a backup of the computer and no problems. However, I will say that it does get a bit warm when using the M.2 as an external drive for extended use. I only turned it on for 30 minutes and it was warm. Not hot enough to make me nervous, but noticeable. The aluminum body makes it sturdy…

Pleasantly Surprised

First of all, it's nothing more than an adapter that accepts an m.2 form factor SSD and allows it to be used as a USB device, and it does a great job of that. The quality of the material and the fit and finish of the product are incredible. This will definitely protect the SSD that is inside from most minor to moderate damage. It's a bit inconvenient as you have to unscrew a couple of screws to remove the access panel to pull the device out and actually attach the SATA SSD to it, and those…

Cons
  • Low Maintainability

Works perfectly. The only problems I had: 1. There were no instructions on how to put my SSD in it. The SSD adapter's internal connector grips one end of the SSD, but you must remove the nut/ring on the other end by unscrewing a tiny Phillips screw from the back of the board. Then press the ring against the end of the SSD and the adapter board at the same time and screw that small Phillips screw back into the ring on the back of the board.2. Make sure you're working on a large enough bright…

An affordable M.2 SATA SSD enclosure that just works.

So, a bit of background. Since the Raspberry Pi 4 now supports booting from external USB drives, I tried using a good quality Samsung USB stick (one of the keychains) and while it was faster than a micro SD card, it tended to , getting very hot and slowing down over time. After using this setup for a few months, the flash drive failed. In hindsight I think that makes sense as these flash drives weren't really designed for continuous use and lots of random writes. Luckily I had a USB 3 external…
