I would not recommend this product as a thorn finder as it is very small, about the size of a cashew nut. Due to its small size, it is not very convenient to run it up and down the wall to look for a nail/screw. In addition, it is so small that it is very likely to be lost in the workplace. We have a house that is over 100 years old with 13 to 18 inch spacing between posts. I've tried using the electronic tenon finder on the lathe and cast to no avail. However, this tool was phenomenal at determining where the metal nails attached the lathe to the studs. Very accurate due to small magnet diameter and very strong magnet for thick plaster. Highly recommended!

I don't know what my problem is, but Stud Finder and I don't work together. I settled on this one before buying an insanely expensive spike finder with all the bells and whistles - more than I was willing to spend. Well, this little magnet works! Grabs directly onto the drywall screw in the wall and indicates the position of the stud. Wonderful. My heavy photo frame was hanging a few minutes after receiving this item. I love it.
