Used it in one of my canister filters and after 2 weeks I was wondering why the filter is running so slowly. I took it apart to clean it and found tiny bits of this charcoal had made their way through two baskets to the bottom of the canister. Considering the time I spent cleaning my filter of this crap, this article is worthless.

I've been trying for weeks to remove the strong cigarette smell from a used laptop I bought. I've tried fans, sunlight, crumpled newspapers, lemon juice, baking soda, vinegar, isopropyl alcohol, whatever - nothing has worked. I ended up buying 2 cans of these and completely sealing the disassembled laptop in a plastic container. After 4 days the smell was completely gone. I used a can of air to blow off the remaining pieces. Recommended for eliminating odors!

I used to buy this stuff, they switched it to regular charcoal. it is not processed properly. You can flush and flush and every time you just end up with a black messy mess. The grains are small and they continue to dissolve as I rinse them. rinsed in cold and hot water, rinsed with and without a spray bottle. black mess all the time. It works half as it should. although I'm not impressed. lots of soot washed out from the bottom of the cartridge. I don't feel like I need to flush no matter how many times I flush before using the filter. Years ago I heard from a local pet store owner that someone was packaging charcoal and selling it as charcoal or charcoal. This is not one of the culprits for sure. My water seems to be turning cloudy gray and I never want to wash it off in a filter. I have had aquariums for about 40 years…

Got about 2 handfuls for my 55 gallon tank and this stuff quickly started to work. At night (7+ hours) I had clean water. After 2 days it was crystal clear. I've used others, good and bad, but for the price and quality of Marinelands Carbon I think I'll stick with them. As for how long it works my advice is to use it a little at a time for a maximum of 7 days and take it out. and use again when you notice a slight cloudiness instead of adding more and leaving it in the tank for a month+ as some
