Magnet holds 12 pounds on contact with 1/4" thick, flat, smooth ferrous plate in a vertical test, 50% less on vertical surface holding against sliding force and less on steel with paint. Includes 0.187" diameter center through hole. Assembly held together magnetically and hold on all four sides not on the 1" length, 0.813" width area. Magnet assembly made of a ceramic, ferrite magnet sandwiched between two zinc- plated steel plates. Economical.

Purchase specifically for building model airplanes

Use to build balsa model airplanes, be they kits or home build models. They serve their purpose very well. I knew about this years ago but until recently I never pulled the trigger and gosh I love this system. It's unlikely that everyone would use pins to attach parts to the surface of a building.

Decent magnets - make sure it's what you want

Didn't notice the flaws others mentioned, they stick together really well! Little did I know the magnets and zinc plates weren't connected. I think there is flexibility in using them for cabinet latches etc, but for what I use them for - hanging signs - the zinc plates just get in the way. As a result I got 24 magnets and 48 zinc plates.

False advertising. They don't even weigh 12 pounds.

Very weak. They can NEVER hold 12 pounds as advertised. One of these magnets can't even hold a 2 pound sheet of steel. Those fucking magnets. Save time and buy neodymium magnets (also available with holes) on eBay.
