Very Decent: Cooking Utensils and Gadgets

Like a few other posters, I'd really like a little more slice thickness adjustment (3/8" or 1/4" would be very helpful) without having to remove a full-size mandolin on the cooking small amounts. Unfortunately, this isn't the case, so I still hand-cut the thicker slices needed.

Killer slicer! - Kitchen and dining room

I'm not the type to keep a lot of tools in the kitchen. I'm also very good with a knife and can cut with the best. But damn, this thing makes cutting easy. With very little effort and in a very short time you will have a bunch of perfectly sliced ginger/onions/carrots/etc. ready to eat. Expensive but worth it.

As for the mandolin, this is my favorite.

I didn't give it 5 stars because I wasn't thrilled with the vegetable holder or the cut depth options (thin to very thin) but overall this is the best mandolin I've ever had and I've had a LOT. Being able to close it to eliminate the possibility of an accident during storage is invaluable. He is also very well built and handsome. Just make sure to clean it right away as some areas are difficult to access and drying food there will be very troublesome.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Some issues

Very sharp and often faster than a table mandolin.

I have two Microplane food slicers, one with a straight blade and one with a V blade. I prefer the V-Blade version. What I like: It's lightweight and easy to use. The blade is very sharp and appears to be replaceable. Blades are secured with four (4) Phelps head machine screws. I don't know where to buy replacement blades. A slicer is small enough to fit in a large utensil drawer, while a mandolin typically takes up space in a closet. The thickness of the cut is easily changed using the largeโ€ฆ
