I wanted something for hiking that wasn't as bulky as my old wool hat. That's great. It is warm yet breathable (typical of merino wool), yet lightweight and very compact. My head is bigger and I hate tight hats, but this one fits really well - snug enough that it doesn't move but isn't snug on my head. I have no idea why anyone would pay two or three times as much for a branded merino hat. It seems to have the same quality and functionality as Smartwool.

This hat replaces my favorite Smartwool hat which I dropped out of my coat pocket while walking around the airport.
